I was delighted to achieve a Distinction, which has been a real confidence booster

Having already completed the Legal Secretaries Diploma in 2024, I was keen to undertake further learning in one of my favourite modules and had every confidence that another ILSPA course would be a worthwhile investment. I really enjoyed studying for this diploma. I found the course materials well-written, comprehensive and interesting. Considering my answers to the achievement test questions really cemented my learning. I was never keen on writing essays when I was younger so was a bit apprehensive about this aspect of the course. However, I found the brilliant ‘How to Write Assignments’ guidance document invaluable in helping me to structure my answers. My assignment was marked promptly with comprehensive feedback given. I was delighted to achieve a Distinction, which has been a real confidence booster, and will hopefully prove to be an advantage when applying for future career opportunities.

I mentioned the course on my cv and hoped it would help open a door for me. It did.

I was specifically looking for a way into legal secretary/pa roles but hadn't worked in that area before, although I had been a pa secretary a few years ago to chief executive and chairman of a large corporate company. This course gave me exactly the right level of legal knowledge. It stretched me but wasn't so overwhelming that it made me feel I couldn't cope and was presented in a logical way. I realised early on that the only way I could stay on top of it while working full time was to complete tasks methodically each week. I had an achievement plan and tried to stick to it religiously so that I knew I would complete the course before the main summer period when I would be busier socially! I was lucky as the website made perfect sense to me and was easy to navigate. Uploading coursework was very satisfying and I enjoyed all the detail in the assignments. I think it helped me realise that this type of work suits me. I decided to apply for a legal secretary role while studying the diploma. I mentioned the course on my cv and hoped it would help open a door for me. It did. I start my new job on Monday in a firm of solicitors as a legal secretary. I hope to learn the ropes and earn the chance to progress to legal pa in due course. I would also like to finish off by saying how helpful and friendly Seamus our tutor was. I don't particularly like talking online as I much prefer face to face but he made it much more easy going.

It has proved invaluable

I just wanted to email to say how delighted I am to have achieved my Legal Secretaries Diploma with Distinction. I have found the course extremely interesting, although hard at times. I undertook the course to gain an insight into the legal elements of my current role, having left teaching in my early 50s, and it has proved invaluable. I chose the distance learning which was excellent for me

This course is great, I’ve really enjoyed it. I chose the distance learning which was excellent for me as am unable to commit to specific times during the week. I currently work in an Estate Agency so the conveyancing side was of particular interest, although I also chose Private Client and Corporate which I preferred. I would highly recommend this course, my only regret is that I never did it years ago.

I went for an interview and secured the job on the same day

Orla answered any questions I had even when I thought they were silly and gave me advice on a course I had found to help me on my way in my new career path – Legal Secretaries Diploma. It turns out Pathway Careers collaborate with this course which is online and Orla got someone from the course to ring me and give guidance. Within 2 weeks Orla had found me a post, I started my diploma online, I went for an interview and secured the job on the same day. I really benefitted from learning remotely from home at my own pace

Not only passed, but with a Merit! To say I was chuffed would be an understatement

I decided to do this course for two reasons: 1. There didn’t seem to be a course or any way to advance as a secretary. Everybody else in this department were either fully qualified solicitors/Partners, or were doing their LPC/CILEX to become a solicitor. 2. To prove to myself that at aged 60 I could still do it! Unfortunately I became quite ill during the first part of the course, with 2 weeks in hospital then 5 weeks at home. This also kicked off a bout of severe depression and general disinterest in everything. I asked for an extension to complete the course, and this was granted – thank you very much. Still not over the depression I completed the course on the very last day and submitted everything at once with, I must admit, not with the greatest of hopes of passing. I was away racing that weekend and successfully passed my assessment to become a Deputy Secretary for Race Meetings through BARC (British Automobile Racing Club) I received the news that I was no longer a Trainee on the Tuesday morning. Tuesday afternoon I received all the results from my ILSPA assignments. Double whammy, I had passed that too. Not only passed, but with a Merit! To say I was chuffed would be an understatement, and there were a few minutes of leaking eyes! The course itself was really interesting. We don’t have a Civil Litigation Department at this firm, so it was interesting to see that side of law. The scenarios and questions were thought provoking and kept me interested. We do have a Family and Private Client (Wills, Probate and Admin) departments, so it was really good to see their side of the business. The three more general sections of the course - English Legal System, Key Legal Secretary Skills and General Legal Procedures were good for someone with no background in law at all (I have a degree in Chemistry, and also worked in Logistics). I have been doing this job now for 6 years and now I have this qualification, this is the first time that I feel a bit more on an equal footing with the trainees/junior staff. Our lecturer Seamus was very responsive as to any questions that I had

My experience with you was amazing. I liked the fact that lectures were recorded so if you missed the class, you can go back and listen to what was taught. Our lecturer Seamus was very responsive as to any questions that I had, he made the classes fun by giving real life examples which made it more personable. My advice to students is to do the work soon as you get it. As it would be difficult to go through all of it again, and you could loose momentum. The team “Meg” (just to name a few) was very helpful. I am pleased to say I now have two diplomas of which I am very proud

I have to say that I was extremely impressed with ILSPA whilst studying through them. I have been a legal secretary for over 30 years, starting off on a 2-day temping assignment way back when and haven't looked back, although I had no "legal" qualifications. The guys at work were pestering me about taking courses, so I chose ILSPA simply because I am already a member. Any questions I had, however silly - and there were a few - were dealt with promptly and professionally. I am pleased to say I now have two diplomas of which I am very proud and am looking to take another one in the near future - just giving myself a little bit of a breather first. I am excited to embark on a career change

The reason for taking this course is that I am looking to change industry. I currently work in the property sector but have a keen interest in the legal side to it hence my decision to complete the following modules: Civil Litigation, Contract and Tort, Land Law and Conveyancing. Learning these modules deepened my knowledge which I hope to further develop when enrolling on the Paralegal Diploma course through NALP. While the multiple choice questions tested my knowledge I really enjoyed the assignments since they helped me understand how to put the law into practice. I found that if I had a query the support team where very quick to respond. I am excited to embark on a career change using the knowledge and skills I have gained from completing this course.

The fact that the course is fully virtual is very good

I am a Bilingual (English-French) Executive Legal Assistant in an Africa-based Development Finance Institution (DFI). I accepted this job in mid-2022 without any legal background. My work revolves around Board Affairs (planning of quarterly Board meetings, Board member nominations at the end of Board terms, E-Board management of documents and Board remuneration, Treaty interpretation, etc). I took the ILSPA Diploma to be able to get an introduction to Law in general so that I can understand and do my work better. Working in the legal department means that I work with lawyers and there are times that we deal with contracts, civil litigation and other legal aspects. The fact that the course is fully virtual is very good as international students can benefit from the training.
